2008 International Forum of Urban Development and Planning Held in Langfang of Hebei Province
On Jun. 19, 2008, the 2008 International Forum of Urban Development and Planning & First World Expo on Urban Planning and Construction of Hebei Province, co-organized by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction and Hebei Provincial Government, was held at the international exhibition center of Langfang. Ms. WANG Zhizhen, Vice Chairwoman of the National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Mr. HU Chunhua, Acting Governor of Hebei Provincial Government and Deputy Secretary of Hebei Provincial Committee of CPC, Mr. QIU Baoxing, Vice Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction and other leaders attended the conference, together with more than 500 experts and scholars from both China and abroad. Mr. Robert A. Mundel, Professor of Columbia University and the winner of Nobel Prize for Economics, Mr. QIU Baoxing, Vice Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction, Mr. Christian Delvoie, Sector Director for Sustainable Development of the East Asia and Pacific Region at the World Bank, Mr. Mochizuki Tatsuya, the famous Japanese expert on post-disaster reconstruction, Mr. WU Zhiqiang, Professor of Tongji University, and Mr. Stanley Yip, Head of Hong Kong Institute of Planners delivered the keynote speeches respectively on economic development, ecological city construction, and after-disaster reconstruction.
On the eight theme forums of the conference, which respectively focus on the theoretical construction of urban development and planning in the era of globalization, the post-disaster urban reconstruction and the disaster precaution and relief, the planning of ecological city in China, and so on, nearly 100 experts from both China and abroad discussed the key issues of post-disaster reconstruction, urban planning, ecological city, disaster precaution and relief, and green transport to share their research achievements and practical experience with the audience.
