Urban Planning Society of China Announces Work Program for 2009
Recently, the Urban Planning Society of China (UPSC) announced its Outline Work Program for 2009. The Outline is composed of six chapters of academic activity, international cooperation, promotion and publication, technical service, education and training and organization construction. Together with the activities of all the secondary institutions, the UPSC will carry out about 80 works in 2009.
In addition to China’s Annual Congress of Urban Planning 2009, the major academic activities of UPSC in 2009 includes the International Seminar on Building Low-carbon City, the Symposium on Protection and Utilization of Industrial Heritage, the Specific Symposium on Urban Planning Supervision, the Third Asia International Exchange of Urban Redevelopment Experts, as well as the organization of Youth Paper Award of Urban Planning Society of China and Jin Jingchang Outstanding Urban Planning Paper Award. For celebrating the 60th anniversary of P. R. China, the UPSC will hold a series of symposia and seminars, open the column of 60 Years’ Planning Interview in China Construction News to review and sum up the experience of urban planning in China since the 1950s, and publish related books in collaboration with China Architecture & Building Press. Actively carrying out international cooperation will be another focus of the UPSC in 2009. It will give full play to its role of China’s official representative in the international institutions of Planning to enhance international collaborations and to introduce Chinese scholars and achievements of urban planning to the international academic community. It will organize its members to participate in the 45th International Urban Planning Congress and help relevant planning institutes to participate in international planning researches and consultations, so as to support the Chinese planning forces to embark on the world planning stage. Furthermore, the UPSC will organize the academic study tour to Brazil and Argentina for the members.
The year of 2009 will see the new general election of UPSC. Up to now, the recommendation of candidates for council member has been drawing to a close and the modification of the Constitution of Urban Planning Society of China has already been carried out. The UPSC requests all the subordinate professional academic committees to complete the general election in a year after that of UPSC.
Moreover, the academic conferences to be organized by the secondary institutions of the UPSC in 2009 include the symposiums on landscape, garden, tourism, and construction of ancient cities and towns, the Colloquium of Green Cities, Bright Road, the symposium on urban space and urban design amid urban development transformation, as well as the annual meetings of urban safety and disaster prevention, application of new technologies, planning of small cities and towns, historical and cultural heritage protection, and urban planning abroad.
