General Process of China’s Building a Well-off Society in an All-round Way Reaches 74.6%
On Dec. 21, 2009, the report entitled China’s Building a Well-off Society in an All-round Way Made New Progress in 2008, released by the State Statistics Bureau of China, revealed that in 2008, the process of building a well-off society in an all-round way reached 83.5% in eastern area, in the northeast 77.6%, the central area 72.4%, and the west only 66.3%. The degree of success in Beijing and Shanghai surpassed 90%, basically fulfilling all the objectives of building a well-off society.
According to the Statistical and Monitoring Scheme of Building a Well-off Society in an All-round Way published by the Statistics Institute of the State Statistics Bureau, the general process of building a well-off society in an all-round way in China rose from 72.7% in 2007 to 74.6% in 2008, but regional disparities still existed. The monitoring included six aspects - economic development, social harmony, quality of life, democracy and legislation, culture and education causes, and resource and environment - with a total of 23 indicators.
