China Aims to Further Improve Rural Environment from 2010
The Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China recently disclosed that the Central Government will invest 1.2 billion yuan (RMB) in the renovation of the rural environment over three years, reaching a population of 100 million.In 2008, Chinese government set up a special fund to enhance the environment protection in rural areas under the policy of “incentive bonus for good environment protection”. After two years, the total investment has reached 1.5 billion yuan (RMB). A total of 2,165 villages in China have received financial support for their comprehensive environmental improvements as a result of this policy.In 2010, the focus will be on those villages where the environment pollution is the most severe and frequently discussed. Hopefully after the implementation of protective measures, the environmental pollution will be effectively controlled, the supervision over environmental protection will be enhanced, and people’s awareness about environment protection will be further strengthened.In view of this progress, China will further enhance investment in protecting rural environments in the next three years. It is expected that an agricultural population of about 100 million will benefit from these measures and the rural environment will be further improved.
