Master Plan for Chongqing Liangjiang New Area ApprovedThe Master Plan for Chongqing Liangjiang New Area was approved by the State Council of China on May 7, which is the third sub-provincial new area plan approved by the Central Government, following Shanghai Pudong New Area and Tianjin Binhai New Area. In addition to enjoying the policies granted by the state to Chongqing and the western region, the Liangjiang New Area is also entitled to the preferential policies applicable to Pudong New Area and Binhai New Area, including the priority in experimenting with pilot policies on land, finance, taxation, investment, foreign trade, industrial development, scientific and technological innovation, and administration institutions. In addition, certain unprecedented major reform measures are also allowed and supported in the New Area.The new roles of Liangjiang New Area will be an important modern manufacturing base and comprehensive transport hub of China; an important gateway of the inland region opening to the outside world; a trade, commercial and logistics center as well as a financial and technological innovation center of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The New Area is located north of the Yangtze River and east of Jialing River, consisting of certain regions of three administrative districts (Jiangbei, Yubei, and Beibei districts) of Chongqing. The total planned area is 1,200 km2, of which, built-up area will amount to over 150 km2, while water area, hilly regions and ecological area will account for 650 km2, and the remaining 400 km2 will be reserved for further development.
