State Council Approves Outline Plan of National Woodland Protection and Utilization
On Jun. 9, 2010, the State Council reviewed and approved the Outline Plan of National Woodland Protection and Utilization (2010 - 2020), setting the bottom line for the protected area of national woodland for the next ten years, where the total area of expropriated woodland should be controlled within 1.055 million ha.
The Outline also mentioned that up to 2020, the woodland inventory should be increased to 312.3 million ha., the national forest inventory should be increased to above 223 million ha., the forest coverage rate should reach 23%, and forest reserves should be increased to above 15 billion m3. According to the Outline, in the next ten years, the national forest inventory should be increased by 22.3 million ha., and forest reserves should be increased by 1.2 billion m3.
