2011 National Railway Work Con-ference Held in Beijing
The National Railway Work Conference was held in Beijing on Jan. 4, 2011. According to the statistics, the operation mileage of China’s high-speed railway reached 8,358 km in 2010, about 1,200 bullet trains were in operation every day, and the revenue mileage of the railway reached 91,000 km.
In the 12th Five-year Plan, China’s railway modernization will enter a new stage, essentially realizing the goal of people’s convenient travels and smooth freight transport. By 2015, the revenue mileage of the railway will reach above 120,000 km, among which the high-speed railway will cover more than 16,000 km. The express railway passenger transport network will cover all the provincial capitals and 90% of the cities with a population of above 500,000. The volume of passenger flow will reach 3 billion people, the volume of freight will reach 4.8 billion tons, and the conversion volume will reach 5.1 trillion ton-kilometers. A total of 70 new projects will commence this year. The most remarkable event is the launching of the Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway transport service in mid-June this year, offering 4 hours traveling time between Beijing and Shanghai. This year, the operation mileage of China’s high-speed railway will exceed 13,000 km, forming a high-speed railway network with larger coverage and greater effect.
