2011 International Symposium on Sciences of Human Settlements Held
On Feb. 28, the 2011 International Symposium on Sciences of Human Settlements, co-sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and Tsinghua University, was held at Tsinghua University. In view of China’s rapid urbanization and transformation of development modes, the symposium took the “Sciences of Human Settlements” created by Academician WU Liangyong as the theme and attracted the attendance of many distinguished experts and scholars from both China and abroad. Approaching from the angles of global experience and China’s reality, the symposium reviewed the development of human settlements in China, shared the achievements and experience in human settlement practice, and explored the development, cooperation, innovation, etc., between such disciplines as economics, sociology, environmental science, urban studies, and architecture in the study of Sciences of Human Settlements, in the hope of providing advice and suggestions for the realization of a more harmonious, civilized, sustainable, and pleasant prospect of human settlements in China.
As one of the academic activities held in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Tsinghua University, the symposium announced the establishment of the WU Liangyong Foundation for Sciences of Human Settlements and the opening of the Exhibition on Progress of Human Settlement Development in China & Tsinghua University Centennial Celebration.
