The Site of Xanadu Becomes the 30th World Cultural Heritage of China
On the conference of the 36th World Heritage Committee that was held in St. Petersburg of Russia, it was unanimously agreed that the site of Xanadu in China will be included into the World Heritage List. Now the site of Xanadu becomes the 30th World Cultural Heritage of China, and the total number of world heritages in China has reached 42. The World Heritage Committee declared that the site of Xanadu, as a relic site of a capital on the steppe, demonstrates the process of cultural integration and witnesses the clash and blend of the nomadism civilization and the farming civilization in North Asia. Therefore, it is qualified for the four value standards of world heritage, and also meets the requirements for authenticity and integrity. In addition, the committee gave fully positive comments on the protection and management of the site.
