Chinese Delegation Attends 48th World Planning Conference in Russia
The 48th World Planning Conference of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) was held in the city of Perm, a city in Central Russia, from Sept. 10 to 13, 2012. The theme of the conference is “planning amid rapid changes of cities.” More than 450 experts and scholars in the field from over 40 countries attended the conference, and 16 of them delivered keynote reports, over 100 of them submitted papers, all of whom carried out academic discussions on the conference.
On the conference, it was appealed that both decision-makers and planners should pay great attention to the issue of rapid urbanization, because it has become a tremendous global challenge. The planning should follow the principle of realizing sustainable development and conduct adjustments on the development speed when necessary. At the same time, the cooperation and communication between public and private forces is also very important.
Mr. SHI Nan, Vice Chairman of ISOCARP and Vice President of Urban Planning Society of China (UPSC), presided over the general meeting of the conference. Mr. LI Xiaojiang, President of China Academy of Urban Planning & Design (CAUPD) and Vice President of UPSC, delivered keynote reports. And Mr. WANG Kai, Vice President of CAUPD and Secretary-general of Regional Planning Committee of UPSC, worked as the principal of parallel sessions. Over 10 pieces of thesis by Chinese planners were accepted by the conference. The projects of Reconstruction Planning of Beichuan formulated by CAUPD and Shantou Development Strategy formulated by the Planning Institute of Nanjing University won the Award of Outstanding Project of 2012. More than 40 professionals in the field from Beijing, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Wuhan, etc., attended the conference.
