List of the First Group of National Pilot Smart Cities Announced
The meeting organized and held by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD) on establishing national pilot smart cities was held recently in Beijing, which announced the list of the first group of national pilot smart cities. Vice Minister Baoxing QIU attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The person in charge from the China Development Bank and the governments of pilot cities participated in the meeting.
The list includes 90 cities, among which there are 37 prefecture-level cities, 50 districts (counties), and 3 towns. After 3 to 5 years’ development phase, the MOHURD will evaluate these pilot cities (districts, and towns), and grade them from high to low as one-star, two-star, and three-star.
The meeting points out that new-type urbanization is the main development strategy of the Party Central Committee and the State Council to accelerate the formation of new economic mode and promote the continual and healthy development of Chinese economy. One of the most urgent issues of new-type urbanization is to integrate the advanced concepts such as intensive, low-carbon, ecological, and smart development with the specific process of urbanization. As a result, aiming at solving practical problems of cities, the MOHURD proposed and pushed forward the establishment of pilot smart cities on the basis of comprehensive research, careful survey, and full consultation. The beneficial experiment of pilot cities (counties, and towns) will provide more support from different angles for urban development. The main content is, from the methodological perspective, to re-understand the urbanization development and planning, smartly plan and manage the cities, smartly allocate urban resources, optimize the livable environment of cities, promote the inheritance and innovation of urban culture, and finally promote citizens’ sense of happiness and boost the sustainable development of cities.
