The 9th China International Garden Expo Open
On May 18, the 9th China (Beijing) International Garden Expo, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD) and the Beijing Municipal Government, was open in Beijing.
Minister Weixin JIANG of the MOHURD pointed out in his speech that the Chinese garden is the perfect combination of traditional culture and ecological civilization. In the 16 years that the Garden Expo has been running, it has become an important platform for popularizing the garden culture, promoting the exchange and cooperation, and displaying the new achievements of gardening and greening.
Minister Weixin JIANG emphasized that the Garden Expo of this year adopted the concepts of respecting nature and protecting environment and applied the ecological restoration technique to transform a landfill in the west bank of the Yongding River, in Beijing’s Fengtai District, into a high-quality garden, which has great demonstration and popularization values. Integrating functions such as display, collection, scientific research, and education, the Chinese Garden Museum at the Garden Expo is the first non-profit museum themed by gardening arts, thus being a highlight in the 9th Garden Expo.
The Garden Expo of this year will be open from May 18 to Nov. 18. There are 94 domestic exhibition areas and 34 foreign exhibition areas, and both the number and variety of gardening works of this year’s Garden Expo are the highest in its history.
