Report on Feasibility of Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway System Approved by the State Council
The Beijing-Tianjin intercity railway of 115 kilometers long, with the investment of 12.34 billion RMB, began to be constructed in the first half of the year 2005. The designed speed will reach 200 kilometers per hour. After the construction is finished, the objective of a half hour drive from Beijing to Tianjin and vice versa will be realized.
The intercity railway system in the region of Beijing, Tianjin and surrounding areas of Bohai is an important part of "Passenger transport system in the surrounding areas of Bohai" in the Long-term and Medium-term Planning for Railway Network of China, said the experts. According to the planning, the network construction of the intercity railway framework will be completed within the next 5 to l0 years; in the next 20 years, the basic network construction will be completed; and in the next 50 years, the long-range network construction will be completed.
