UPSC Releases Proposal for Fighting the COVID-19 Epidemic
After the Novel Coronavirus pandemic outbreak, the Urban Planning Society of China (UPSC) quickly responded and assigned related work. In order to motivate people working in the urban planning field to collaborate with each other and strive to conquer current difficulties, the UPSC invited senior experts in the field to write articles on the topic during the spring festival period, through which they could discuss professional issues, spread scientific knowledge, put forward related policy suggestions, and serve for fighting against COVID-19 epidemic. On Jan. 28, 2020, the column of “Planners in Action” was released on the WeChat account of UPSC, which released about two posts each day. By Apr. 15, the column totally released 75 posts with a total viewed number of 450 thousand and a wide re-sharing.
Moreover, in order to reflect on the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 epidemic and to build up a healthy, safe, and sustainable human settlement, on Mar. 4, 2020, the UPSC released a proposal to all members as well as peer workers, which includes the following key points: first, we should be confident that we will both win the war of against COVID-19 epidemic and successfully complete related planning work; second, by adhering to the scientific spirit, the safety and health of people should be regarded as the top priority; third, the academic study should be strengthened to promote the resilience of human settlement in urban and rural areas; fourth, effort should be put into formulating scientific plans and guiding the green development of national space in the new era; fifth, measures should be adopted to enhance planning administration and boost the high-quality transition in urban and rural areas; sixth, more effort should be put into popularization of science and upgrading the science and humanity attainments of the whole nation.
